Reined cow horse trainer Ron Ralls was just eight years old when his family moved to a 50,000-acre cow/calf ranch in Caliente, California. Ron spent the next 20 years on a horse helping to run the operation, learning how to maneuver cattle in steep, brushy terrain and getting a better understanding of what it took to run a ranch. He also rode many, many different horses during that time period — including a couple of three-year-olds owned by legendary horse trainer Monty Roberts, who was an acquaintance of Ron’s brother.
Impressed by the work Ron had put in on his colts, Monty offered to help the young cowboy become a horse trainer if he moved to Solvang, California. Ron jumped at the chance, and at 28, became a reined cow horse trainer.
A back-to-back winner of the World’s Greatest Horseman award in 2003 and 2004, he won the $100,000 World’s Richest Stockhorse Championship just two years later. In 2010, he took home the AQHA Junior Working Cow horse Reserve World Champion, the National Reined Cow Horse Association World Champion Hackamore and NRCHA Stallion Stakes Championship trophies.
Today Ron is still training & showing loving every minute of it. He and his wife of 16 years Patty Ralls make there home on their training facility in Gainesville, Texas.
